Sketching for UX Newsletter Issue #11 (June 2023)
My favorite design & visual thinking resources I discovered in June
My work
Before sharing my favorite resources, here are some of my achievements:
#1 Building a design community: 10x Designers 2.0
I have been part of the 10x Designers community since its first days, and I have been enjoying this journey a lot. In the last couple of weeks, I could contribute a bit to taking it to the next level (new landing page, successful Product Hunt launch, adding skill-based spaces to the community etc.).
Join me on this learning journey, let’s grow together as design professionals! (Launch sale: $99 instead of $129 for 3 months)
#2 Digital Experience Leaders Meetup (presentation)
The Israel National Digital Agency invited me to their Digital Experience Leaders Meetup, it was a great experience, I talked about sketching in the design process, like storyboarding, mind mapping and my ideation workshop formats. Thanks for having me Yael Barer, Tomer Tvizer and Dafna Meller!
#3 Mobbin advocate
I became an advocate of Mobbin, join with my link to support me with a couple of dollars, I’d really appreciate it!
+1 Hundreds of you downloaded my Sketching for UX Designers Workbook, thanks for being interested in my work!
Favorite resources
Here are my favorite discoveries of June, 2023:
#1 UX Bites by Peter Ramsey (Built for Mars)
Little Big Details is one of my all time favorite design inspiration websites, I discovered it in 2015. Sadly, they discountinued it some years ago. I'm really happy that now Peter is following their footsteps 👏
Btw. while the UI details are a bit older, you can still learn a lot from these observations: Little Big Details by Floris Dekker.
#2 Navigating uncertainty by Haraldur Thorleifsson
Halli is a huge inspiration. His talk at Figma Config 2023 was epic. If you haven’t done already, go and watch it.
You can watch back 65 talks here.
#3 Call to inspiration by Alexis Hill
Call for inspiration using the purple hat for when you have inspiration blocks or need fresh new ideas - a great design inspiration website.
#4 Level Up with Figma by Joey Banks
I took Joey’s cohort-based Figma course on Dive. While I attended several advanced Figma courses in the past, this course still had so much to offer. For instance it was great to hear Joey's interpretation of the newest Figma features, and I also learnt a life changing hack ;) One of the best learning experiences - I'm a huge course hoarder, so there are many-many other experiences I can compare this to.
#5 Gestalt Principles series by Christopher Butler
I have been enjoying this article series, Christopher has covered the following principles so far: Proximity, Closure, Similarity, Continuity
My UX Knowledge Base Sketches about Gestalt Principles: Part 1, Part 2
#6 Font Matrix – See & Pair Typefaces Like Never Before by Oliver Schöndorfer
Pairing fonts (more precisely, typefaces) is hard, right? Well, it doesn’t have to be. Here is an awesome framework described by Oliver.
”The Font Matrix is a different way of seeing typefaces. Knowing about it earlier would have saved me a lot of time and guessing, when it comes to choosing, but especially to combining typefaces.”
#7 Codex Atlanticus
An online collection of writings and drawings by Leonardo da Vinci. Here are two articles that explain why you should get inspired by da Vinci:
#8 Designing Filters That Work: Best Practices and Guidelines
’s great article on how to design better filters. “Filters are everywhere. While we often think of them appearing when booking flights or shopping online, filters are frequently used in pretty much every interface that features more than a handful of data points.”#9 Foundations of Interaction Design by Christina Wodtke
I love this article not only because it’s about a fascinating topic - how to create a course curriculum for interaction design - , but I also love Christina’s sketches!
#10 Organizing design workshops: a universal checklist by Slava Shestopalov
I facilitate a lot of workshops (both online and in-person), and I know that preparation is key. This article contains so much good advice!
A closely related resouce: How to design a design workshop - a great talk by Bob Marvan at WebExpo 2018
+1 Decoding Research
I love comics and I’m a research-focused designer, too, so this series quickly became one of my favorites. “Sharing stories about everyday life, struggles and ironies of being in #uxresearch”
Here is another great design comics by Pablo Stanley.
Favorite posts (LinkedIn & Twitter)
#1 Vitaly’s list of people sharing design resources
Vitaly Friedman created an epic list of people consistently sharing design resources and insights - I’m so grateful for being included on this list!
#2
‘s analysis of the Formcarry websiteI love this short design analysis tweet by Ridd!
#3 UI Adrian’s Agency Updates
I’ve been really enjoying Adrian’s story of building his design agency, here is a tweet from the series.

Double Glitch created something special again: utilizing Figma’s new features, he recreated the game Space Invaders in Figma.
#5 Michael Filipiuk & sketching :)
Michael is a big inspiration, I love that he highlights the benefits of sketching in the design process.
